The application of nanotechnology within the protective coatings industry will be presented including the benefits resulting nanotechnology such as weather-resistance, anti-graffiti, washability and anti-microbial functionality. Nanotechnology will be defined along with examples in nature along with a discussion of some of the environmental and health concerns that are limiting greater implementation of nanotechnology.

Learning Objectives:

·Recognize the basic concepts of nanotechnology and examples in nature.
·Identify coatings applications including anti-graffiti, weather-resistance, washability, durability and anti-microbial.
·Distinguish coating product performance attributes that are a result of nanotechnology.
·Appreciate environmental and health concerns limiting greater implementation of nanotechnology.
