Harsco is an industry pioneer in the processing of mineral products for environmentally beneficial uses. Minimizing the environmental impact and capturing value from coal combustion by-products has been a core service and technology focus since the 1930’s, making Harsco one of America’s first green companies. Our value added service to utility producers, provides a solution to site waste removal, material handling, and cost reduction by engineering “green” uses for the abrasives and roofing marketplaces, both of which are sold under the well-known BLACK BEAUTY® brand name. The objective of this webinar is to outlay potential respiratory hazards that can occur from abrasive blasting. The seminar will review the human respiratory system and how potential hazards such as particulates can cause damage to it. Once the potential hazards are discussed, the applicable OSHA standards will be briefly reviewed; The discussion will involve a review of how limits are measured, how to understand the results of respiratory exposure testing, and how often testing should occur. The next section of the seminar will review what personal protective equipment (PPE) can be used to mitigate the hazard. This discussion will focus on the different types of respirators and how they work; what respiratory protection should be used for certain applications, and exposures limits. The next section will discuss the care and use of the different types of respiratory protection; how to clean, store, and wear different types of personal protective equipment will be covered. The summary of the seminar will stress the importance of knowing the hazards and how to protect yourself by properly selecting, wearing, and caring for PPE.
