The evolution of rail transportation through the years has resulted in the demand for various rail car types for shipping different equipment and commodities.
Along with this demand came the need for various coatings that would not only protect the cars from corrosion but also protect commodities being transported. As these needs increased so did the increase for specific coating technologies tailored to the protection needs.
PPG has been a leader in the rail industry for meeting and exceeding the needs for coatings and has continued the progression of coatings to meet steel protection, maintenance of commodity purity, as well and ease of cleaning and use.
Of late the priority has shifted to the commonly used term “sustainability,” which generally means the ability of a product achieve a long, marketable life based on environmental and technology relevance. PPG continues to research and develop sustainable products that meet the demands of rail transportation.
