Covestro LLC

Covestro LLC is one of the leading producers of high-performance polymers in North America. Their business activities are focused on the manufacture of high-tech polymer materials and the development of innovative solutions for products used in many areas of daily life. Covestro's main segments served are the automotive, construction, wood processing and furniture, electrical and electronics and medical industries. Other sectors include sports and leisure, cosmetics and the chemical industry itself.

Attendees are eligible to receive AIA LU|HSW credit. For the hospital administrator who is concerned with meeting the current Center for Disease Control (CDC) and The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements,as well as increasing COVID-19 protocols without sacrificing aesthetics and durability, there are architectural coatings technologies targeted at hospital environments which require a higher frequency of cleaning using stronger disinfectants. These novel coatings technologies offer improved durability and resistance to harsh cleaners and disinfectants without sacrificing appearance. The discussion will cover changing disinfection requirements, chemicals, procedures involved, benchmark testing methods and results, and case histories.

Learning objectives:

• Understand the durability, safety and economic challenges facing facility owners and the industry trend of higher disinfectant resistant coatings migrating into architectural wall applications;
• Name the top three traits preferred by building decision makers related to higher performance wall coatings discovered via in-field research;
• Explain how different commercial architectural coatings are affected by common maintenance chemicals and performance criteria; and
• Be familiar with high performance waterborne polyurethane coating technology that can be used in new and maintenance high disinfection, high scrub areas where there is a need for extreme durability.

Steven Reinstadtler , Marketing Manager, Infrastructure Coatings

Steven Reinstadtler is the Marketing Manager for Infrastructure Coatings at Covestro in Pittsburgh. He holds a BS in Chemistry with a Polymer Science focus from the University of Pittsburgh. Reinstadtler joined Covestro in 1987, after accumulating 15-years-experience in high performance coatings and elastomers. He later transitioned into the commercial sector, where he was responsible for uncovering unmet market needs and forward marketing activities. Reinstadtler currently helps formulators identify new polyurethane coatings markets and helps architects, engineers, consultants, and other coatings professionals to build durability- and sustainable-focused infrastructure.
