The webinar will discuss typical steps for conducting a coating failure investigation by reviewing a premature coating failure that occurred on a security barrier at an electrical power station. After viewing the webinar, attendees should be able to understand the typical steps for conducting a coating failure investigation and describe some typical field coating tests or measurements when investigating a coating failure. Attendees should also be able to list some typical types of lab testing used for analyzing coating samples and understand the primary cause of the security fence failure.

Jay Helsel is a senior consultant with KTA-Tator. He holds an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan, is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector, an SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist and SSPC Certified Concrete Coatings Inspector. At KTA, Helsel manages coating projects, performs coating failure investigations and coating and corrosion assessments, writes coating specifications and is a regular instructor for KTA coating inspection courses.
