This presentation revisits the reconditioning of the 400,000-gallon No.2 water tower, in Anoka, Minnesota. Both the interior and exterior of this legged tank were reconditioned in 2003. As part of the initial project the roof surface area from 1ft. below the overflow was sectioned off into thirds where application was made with a two-coat epoxy, MC urethane-zinc and two-coats epoxy, and a single coat of MC urethane-zinc. A warranty inspection was completed in 2005 identifying no significant failures or differences in the three systems used. Follow up inspection was conducted in 2009 with follow up maintenance completed in the summer of 2011.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the importance of follow-up tank maintenance
  2. Alternatives for protecting hard to paint areas
  3. Repair sequence following long-term service
  4. Potential for single-coat application of zinc above the water line
