The best answer is you don't. The best part of using a wood like ironwood is you don't have to stain the deck as part of its upkeep. You just get to enjoy the deck. If you want to stain a deck a certain color, pressure-treated or cedar lumber would make more sense. If you truly want to try and maintain some color of the ironwood, then using a very slow oil that can penetrate into the ironwood would be best. Just know that depending on sun exposure, you may need to do this very frequently.
