We have came along way from using chains on suspension bridges. Preserving the cables ranges from proper design of spacers and clamps, to making sure the tension is adjusted properly at designated intervals to surface prep and coatings for preservation of the cables. Caution should be taken when abrasive blasting on suspension cables, mainly in selecting the type of blast media. Coating selection is very important, as well. The cables support the span and are under tension. This should be considered when making the coating selection.
