*From my experience, nearly all refineries ban the use of mobile phones on their property.
Initially, it was thought that signals from mobile devices triggered the operation of automatic valves.It's is much easier to write in a notebook whilst carrying out inspections than to try to type in sunlight. Whilst nearly everyone nowadays relies on a phone camera, it's easier to obtain permission to use a small camera from the client. Apart from that, I always request that mobile phones are switched off or on silent and not used during meetings.

I use photo apps that include time/date and gps coordinates. I also use Notebook to allow coating info, environmental info, station #’s, etc. to be jotted down for my later reports.
