Establish through records and identify the original coating.
Contact the coating supplier and follow their advice regarding the over-coating of their products. It maybe that a different manufacturer's product has been specified as a repair. It must be established at a planning stage before any pre-treatment begins.

Appearances can be deceiving. The biggest concern is with intercoat adhesion. This is often problematic due to surface contamination, poor surface prep or incompatible coatings. The advantage to over-coating is a cost savings of not having to remove the existing liner.
