They will know the boiling point of the formulation and advise on suitable thinners or suitability of the coating for the purpose. Certainly, ignoring this situation can lead to poor wetting and subsequent poor performance or premature failure of the coating system.

At high ambient and surface temperatures, coatings ...read more At high ambient and surface temperatures, coatings have a difficult time wetting out the surface prior to cure. Again, depending on the type of coating, the first 30-40 minutes are most critical for proper adhesion and cure of the applied coating. Whenever possible, try to avoid midday heat and do the application during early mornings or later evening. Be careful, however, of the humidity and dew point. If coating work must be done during high ambient temperatures, it is necessary to adjust thinning and change the application techniques to avoid problems. The use a of slow thinner at a higher than normal thinning level will keep the film wet longer and allow it wet into the surface for good adhesion and optimum performance. However, be careful of excessive surface temperatures, rapid evaporation of solvents, and, in some cases, a portion of curing agent or modifiers getting into trouble with cure kinetics of the applied coating.
