UHP water jetting is another method for the removal of silicone from a ship's hull. A test patch can be done to check if the existing anchor profile will be compatible with the coating spec. Some of the advantages of ultra high pressure water jetting are elimination of blast media recovery or removal, dust, hoppers, bulk blast units, and recycle units.

Grinding is not the only option, as it will not provide an adequate surface profile for the epoxy coating to adhere to the substrate. An alternative method could be the use of power tools such as needle guns, or even abrasive blasting, which would satisfy the profile requirement for the epoxy coating.
