A specially formulated epoxy product is blown into any metallic pipe after it is abrasive-blasted in place. It has NSF 61 approvals for potable water but can be used for most applications and has a 40- to 60-year life cycle design.

There is a 1989 US patent, number 4,798,474 "In-Si ...read more There is a 1989 US patent, number 4,798,474 "In-Situ Pipeline coating" that describes a method for applying an internal coating (of the epoxy resin type) to the inside of a long (60 miles) pipeline, that proposes the use of two spherical "pigs" that trap about one cubic meter of liquid coating between them, and then are sent along the pipeline to coat the inside. A similar but miniaturized approach could be easily devised to apply a coating to smaller pipes by wiping (extruding) the inside with the coating material.
