The finish depends on how the drywall was prepped and finished. Because of the variance in porosity, the key would be to make the paintable surface as equal as possible. Skim-coating the final stage (finish 5) helps to ensure an even gloss or finish throughout.

The artist or decorator needs to submit sample panels, mock-ups or photographs of previous work for you to choose from. From there, other finishing qualifications must be outlined as well, such as specific colors, sheen and number of coats. These items must be agreed to in the contract, as well as warranty if any and time frame for completion.
