I've seen claims of extreme durability for a new concrete floor coating material exposed to heavy foot traffic. Is there a quick test to determine the validity of these claims?

I would recommend a scrub test, or abrasion test would give adequate results for wear on a concrete surface. Both of these test methods are outline in the ASTM guidelines for durability.

Having formulated many concrete walkway coatings, my favorite test method is to paint stripes of different coatings, including a known industrial control, across a forklift ramp, preferably a downhill one. Note when the different stripes wear away and it quickly gives you an estimate of durability of the test coatings as compared to the control.
