When I was faced with this problem, I would g ...read more When I was faced with this problem, I would grab frequent samples based on my operating hours, at least one every 16 op-hours, and do an in-field sieve test. I kept a set of 3” screens in my site trailer just for this purpose. I followed the basic testing procedure outlined in ASTM C136-6. By doing this, I was assured my mix was always in range. The 15 or 20 minutes this took to do the test was nothing compared to the peace of mind it gave me, not to mention how happy it made the inspectors. If the mix showed signs of being too fine, I’d add a percentage of the coarsest abrasive allowed in the specified mix in proportion to how fine the mix was sieving out to. If I was too coarse, I’d adjust my blast gates on my classifier to retain more fines and add a small percentage of the finer abrasive.
