There is only a short-term advantage for the company, saving money; But it may turn out to be a long-term disadvantage resulting in a penalty for an incorrect report. An experienced NACE- or SSPC-certified coating inspector knows the following: the role of the inspector and the importance of
specifications, PDS, MSDS, pre-job conference, the chemistry of corrosion, coating technology, and what to inspect during surface preparation, coating mixing, coating application, and reporting. I found during my experience with lots of clients that most prefer an all-in-one inspector for welding, coating, and safety. But I personally believe that this is a blunder. Using a specific person for a specific inspection task reduces defects and saves time and costs while increasing customer satisfaction and achieving good will for the inspection company.
