Not even a single holiday or pinhole can be allowed in an immersion coating because, surely, it will be a cause of severe coating failure.

While I appreciate the answers from each person, what part of immersion service was not understood. Holidays or pinholes are not acceptable on any coating job, immersed or not, that I am aware of.

Zero holidays are allowed for immersion linings. Sponge wiping the coated surfaces with a low voltage holiday tester works great for detecting holidays when the lining is 20 mils or less. High voltage testing can be used on linings thicker than 20 mils.

Immersion systems are designed to be pinhole- and holiday-free, hence, the need to undertake suitable holiday detection. Any such defect negates the whole purpose of the lining and the classic 'if you can't see it, it doesn't really matter' attitude is what leads to premature failure of so many systems. Proper quality control, rigorously upheld, can save a fortune in the long run.

Linings for immersion service should be pinhole-free, meaning zero pinholes. This is a relative easy task when applicators follow coating manufacturers' instructions.

Not only holidays are detrimental. Also, overthicknesses are to be avoided, as they will lead to solvent traps and intercoat crackings.
Always specify minimum and maximum. dft's And do not always believe in what some of the paint manufacturers accept, that
2 x minimum on critical areas and 3 x minimum on non-critical areas would be safe.
