I keep reading references to sweep blasting, but I can't find a standard for it. What is sweep blasting, and is there a standard for it in the U.S. or elsewhere?

SSPC-SP 7, “Brush Off” blast cleaning requires the
removal of all loose material. "Sweep Blasting" is more in line with SP 16,
as Trevor has stated. I have seen the language in many contracts describe a
lower air pressure blast using fine mesh abrasive, "sweeping" of all surfaces to
scarify in preparation for overcoat. New shop-coated steel, for instance, would
be "sweep blasted" prior to the application of successive coats in the field. There
is no "sweep blast" standard, but it's not really SP 7, it's more like
SP16.

Hi, guys. The term sweep blasting is a slang expression for Brush-off Blast Cleaning. SSPC issued a new specification, SSPC-SP 16, Brush-off Blast Cleaning of Non-ferrous Metals, which addresses many of the anomalies of SP 7 for non-ferrous surfaces such as old coatings.

There is no such standard for "sweep blasting." That is a slang term. The correct verbiage is Brush Off Blasting, as noted by others, to be SSPC-SP 7/NACE No.4 or ISO 8501-1 SA 1.
