What are the options for shop-applied systems (surface preparation and coating type) to protect the interiors and exteriors of new saltwater storage tanks and associated steelwork that will be exposed to seawater, and that will allow for easy touchup and maintenance once the structures are erected?

The work can be carried out in two phases: 1) workshop phase (interior and exterior): surface preparation by Sa3, ISO8501-1 grade blasting and application of a primer layer (leaving 50 mm of the perimeter to be welded on site without painting); 2) construction phase (interior and exterior, once the tank has been built): review of welds and assembly flaws, using Sa3 ISO8501-1 grade blasting, patching of these areas. Application of the rest of layers until completing the specified system. Variant: 1) workshop phase: Interior, surface preparation by blasting Sa3 ISO8501-1. Exterior, surface preparation by Sa3 ISO8501-1 grade blasting and application of a primer coat: 2) work phase (interior and exterior, once the tank is built): review of welds and assembly flaws, by blasting, patching of these areas. Application of the rest of layers until completing the specified system. Another variant: On site, interior and exterior, surface preparation by Sa3 ISO8501-1 grade blasting and application of all layers to complete the specified system. It´s very important to respect the environmental conditions indicated in the Technical Data Sheet of the paints.
