What is the best way to judge the effectiveness of competing products offered as liquid-applied air barriers on concrete block, in terms of both durability and air barrier properties?

Selected Answers

From ROY CANNON of Pecora Corporation on March 11, 2019:
A starting point would be to contact the air barrier manufacturer and investigate documentation with regard to durability testing, chemistry type, coverage rates, warranties offered, past project references, and specifications cited. A next step would be the incorporation of mock-ups into project planning along with appropriate field testing of air permeance, adhesion, and film thickness. All transition systems supplied by manufacturers should also be closely evaluated for durability in a similar manner as the joining of various building surfaces to create a continuous impenetrable air barrier system is one of the most critical material and application procedures involved in providing proper performance. Apart from utilizing the air barrier manufacturer as an information resource, the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) is a good resource for information surrounding practical field testing of air barrier materials.
