PaintSquare Prestige Awards

Top People

Top People honors will be awarded to one industry figure for each of three categories: Formulator, Contractor and Educator. Individuals in the industry may nominate themselves or others.

Honorees for all three categories will be recognized for their achievements according to the following criteria.

  • Industry impact: How has this individual's work contributed to the protective and marine coatings industry as a whole? What innovations or practices has this person championed in order to improve the protection of steel and concrete structures on the whole?
  • Personal achievement: How does this individual set himself or herself apart from others in the same field? How has this person gone "above and beyond" in comparison with most others in the industry?
  • Professional interaction: How has this individual had an impact on others around him or her in the workplace and the industry in general? How are his or her colleagues better off for working with him or her?
  • Extracurricular: How does this individual's impact extend beyond the workplace and the industry? Has he or she contributed to the community in general as a volunteer, mentor or community figure?

A formulator will be considered to be someone who works on the development of coating products for the protection of substrates.

A contractor will be considered to be an individual employed by a company that carries out surface preparation and protective or marine coating projects on a contract basis for asset owners.

An educator will be considered to be someone whose work involves teaching or training others in the coatings industry about best practices or other specific aspects of work in the field.

The winners of these awards will be determined by a panel of JPCL contributors.

Top Innovations

These honors will be awarded in two categories: coatings and equipment. In order to be eligible for this honor, a technology or product must have been brought to market between January 2018 and January 2019. Companies may nominate their own products or technologies or those from other companies. In both cases, winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Does the technology or product provide a solution for an existing challenge in the industry that had previously resulted in product failures and/or loss of money on the part of asset owners?
  • Is the technology demonstrably different from other products that had been on the market prior to its introduction?
  • How does the technology impact contractors in terms of ease of use, reduced time and/or labor, or other factors?
  • Has the technology been employed successfully on real-world projects successfully?
