D+D News recently reported on a "field school" program the Concrete Preservation Institute runs for students on Alcatraz Island. How important are large-scale, hands-on training programs like this for those interested in careers in construction?

Other, please comment. 95%
Very important. A 12-week hands-on training program like this is the best way for young people to begin to understand the industry, and how to work together. 4%
Somewhat important. It's certainly helpful in understanding the hands-on aspects of the job, though there are other ways to gain that knowledge, too. 1%
Not all that important. I'm sure the students learn some, but it takes years on the job to really hone your skills. 0%
