PPG recently announced the launch of PPG Services, a “digitally-enabled service platform” that aims to allow businesses to identify and connect with painters and then manage and schedule general painting maintenance projects. Do you think the platform will prove beneficial to commercial businesses with multiple locations, as intended?

It may be good for the national commercial businesses but not for the legit painting contractors who are currently doing that type of work now.

While price fixing of any kind may offer some short term benefits to the end user. Those benefits are soon outweighed by the disadvantages of locking a particular group of businesses and trained workers into a system that no longer awards improvement in skills or technology. This marketing concept is amazingly shortsighted and PPG is doing a great job of alienating the industry that has historically been the primary applicators of their products. Note it is the contractors who actually purchase the vast majority of the manufacturer's products not the end users.

This program is basically PPG going into the paint contracting business and competing directly with its best customers who are the commercial painting contractors from across the nation. It will hurt contractors, the labor market and in the end PPG overall due to loss of business from the contractors moving to other suppliers. Terrible idea PPG

Once in place and contractors see how PPG manipulates the market, then they might come to their senses, and switch suppliers
