The Canadian government recently decided to buy Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline to ensure that a planned expansion to the line happens. Was this a wise choice?

Yes. Canada’s oil production has outstripped its transport capacity and the government should step in to ensure there’s proper pipeline capacity.
No. The government shouldn’t be in the pipeline business; if the expansion isn’t economically viable, taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for it.
