The U.S. government has instituted tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from other countries, after years of alleged “dumping” that critics say hurt American steelmakers. Is this a positive move for the United States?

Yes. The government needs to protect its domestic manufacturing industry against unfair trade practices by other countries.
No. The U.S. doesn’t have enough steelmaking capacity to keep up with domestic demand; this will backfire and cost builders in the end.
