Competitions are a gambit for jurisdictions and others to attempt to garner architectural design for free, or close to free. This does nothing to advance the cause of good design or fair values for fees. In addition, the thoughtful research and program information phases are short circuited from the typically short-fused design competition schedule, at times, resulting in proposed designs that are all about form, not based on factual program data or function.

Competition to include category for lowest cost to build among all contestants
