The Golden Gate Bridge is getting a $76 million metal "net" system to deter jumpers from using the bridge to end their lives. Do you think this is a good use of those funds?

is the bridge causing the suicides? A person in that sad state of mind will find something else, for example, listening to Dick Cheney's testimony or W.Bush cranial perambulations would be a form of suicide

Car F…Sounds like liberals are not as sensitive to the mental health of others and how it affects others. Big words and the same tired digs are more important. Hoping that made you feel better about yourself…………….

While the intent is a noble one to prevent/protect distraught individuals from self termination, the design of a horizontal net system in of itself seems flawed. What's to stop a jumper from landing in the net then crawling to the leading edge to continue their endeavor? Vertical system such as the ones on the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges over the Cape Cod Canal would seem to be a more viable option for prevention, however the view would be compromised looking out from the bridge. Another thing to consider in this litigious society are the potential legal ramifications of an individual landing in the horizontal net system and getting injured, no doubt lawyers would file suit after suit with regard to the design of such a system.

Why pay that much money to cure a symptom of the problem?
