Last month, SSPC and NACE International announced that an “overwhelming” majority in each of the associations voted in favor for the two to merge. After over a year of discussions, do you believe this will be a positive step for the coatings industry as a whole?

Hopefully it will be provided the members remain committed to centralized authority to certify individuals for various tasks. I would be in favor of certification beyond inspector level and on to coating professional in various coating specialties for specification preparation of coating projects for bridge, marine vessel, tanks, pipelines, offshore, wind generation, nuclear, oil , chemical, concrete, industries etc.

Hopefully there will be multiple benefits by merging NACE and SSPC. One area where benefits may accrue is "Standards". Having a more common set of standards by one entity will be beneficial.

The NACE Board will figure out a way to torpedo the process the same way they did early this century.
