At the beginning of August, a “waste-to-energy skyscraper,” ideally to be housed in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, was proposed by United States-based designer Honglin Li. Given an honorable mention in the 2019 eVolo Skyscraper Competition, do you think the design has the potential to become an actualized project?

I would be interested in seeing more details of what the plans are for the garbage. Will it be converted into energy by burning, thus requiring some type of filtration on the stacks. Will it be recycled back to basic building blocks to be used in new applications? How much energy will be expended to transport the created raw materials to a populated area?

Kent, another article mentions both using tidal power and and optional add-on using nonrecyclable waste for energy, presumably burned. Mixed/laminated plastics are difficult to recycle and I expect would be good candidates for energy production.
