A new watering hole in Manhattan raises the bar, acting as a tribute to New York City’s industrial past: The Williamsburg Hotel’s newest bar is housed in a structure reminiscent of a water tower.
With bubble lighting and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the speak-easy-style bar features a white marble counter, six-foot-tall murals of sardonic quotes rendered in an art pop style and a wood-and-steel exterior.

The Water Tower bar, which opened Nov. 16, was built above the hotel’s rooftop pool, constructed from scratch. According to The New York Post, the project was spearheaded by Toby Moskovits, head of Heritage Equity Partners. The venture’s business plan focuses primarily on costly exclusivity: $500 bottle service, $525 caviar tastings and 45 seats.

“My roots are deep in this neighborhood, and I have worked hard to build spaces and moments that tell the story of past and present,” said Moskovits. “The Water Tower is one such place.”
The colorful interior comes from London’s Michaelis Boyd Studio, the images a nod to pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Hotel management has noted that the signs are “a nod to the hand-painted ads that dot the streets of the neighborhood.”
Andrew Rosenwach, of the Rosenwach Group, formerly known as the Rosenwach Tank Co., a multigeneration firm responsible for building water towers in New York City since the late 1890s expressed his appreciation to The Bridge for the bar. His company did try to book its seasonal Christmas party there, but the space was not large enough for 150 employees.
Reservations can be made for free, as no bottle-service purchase is necessary. Walk-ins are welcome, but limited capacity promises something of a wait. The bar opened Nov. 16.
