Vote for Your Favorite JPCL 2022 Articles

Remember to cast your vote for your favorite Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings articles from the past year in the 2022 JPCL Readers’ Choice Awards.

Voting for the program’s sixth consecutive year opened this month and will continue through March 3, closing at midnight ET. JPCL readers are encouraged to vote for their favorite articles published between January 2022 and December 2022.

The articles from the year are classified into five categories:

  • Coatings and Materials;
  • Process Technology;
  • Standards and Best Practices;
  • Projects and Performance; and
  • Roundtable.

“By now, we’ve all likely done our own personal account of the past year, and have already set out to accomplish the goals we’ve made for ourselves in 2023,” said Charlie Lange, JPCL Editor-in-Chief. “We here at JPCL are no different; in these first weeks of the new year, we’ve internally reviewed some of what we’ve accomplished in 2022 in order to assess where we’re headed in the coming months.

“This includes recognizing the outstanding work our authors have put in on articles, as well as those involved in outstanding protective coatings projects over the past year.”

In “Are CUI's Days Finally Numbered?: Insulative Coatings Show Potential for Eliminating Corrosion Under Insulation,” Bruce Toews, Neil Wilds and Johnny C. Pourciau of Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine discussed a new coating currently undergoing trials that has the potential to eliminate corrosion under insulation altogether by acting as its own insulation, thus making traditional insulation obsolete. The article was published in the February 2022 JPCL.

Continuing on, Matt Sokol, Advanced Polymer Coatings Inc., presented a general guide to the rail car industry and how to best select linings to protect tank cars and the commodities they carry from corrosion and chemical attack. “Lining Versatility for Rail Tank Cars to Enhance Operations,” from the March 2022 issue of JPCL, outlines the different railcar types and cargo carried, discusses the importance of lining versatility and presents a case study.

Next, Mike O’Donoghue and Vijay Datta of AkzoNobel presented the results of accelerated laboratory tests and real-world, in-situ testing conforming to the owner’s service conditions for an array of lining options currently available for corrosion protection for biofuel-based energy sources in “The Biofuel Mission: Advanced Lining Systems for Energy Transition,” from the August 2022 JPCL.

Finally, Travis Crotwell from Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine highlighted how achieving long-term protection on subsea production system equipment requires careful attention to parameters set forth by coating manufacturers and standards organizations to protect the submerged assets for upwards of three decades in “Ideal Application Characteristics of Subsea Production System Coatings.” In this October 2022 JPCL article, Crotwell described some of the coating characteristics that can enable these specific in-ship applications for SPS equipment to help guide owners and applicators in selecting systems to protect their subsea assets.
