Dunn-Edwards Announces Student Design Competition

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2022

At the start of the month, paint and coatings company Dunn-Edwards announced that submissions were being accepted for its second annual Emerging Professionals Design Competition.

The nationwide competition is open to eligible emerging students of architecture and design who are currently enrolled. Dunn-Edwards reports that there is no fee to enter.

“This competition encourages all design students regardless of their year in school to demonstrate their skills in residential and commercial design,” the company wrote in an emailed press release.

Grand prize winners are slated to receive national recognition through a feature in Dunn-Edwards’ specs + spaces, acknowledgment on social media and $3,000 in cash. The beginner tier winners will receive $100 prepaid credit cards.

Two early-bird prizes will also be awarded and include an all-expenses paid trip to a design destination in the United States with a plus one. This prize will be randomly awarded to early applicants who apply by June 19.

Dunn-Edwards Color of the Year, Art and Craft (DET682), is the centerpiece of all design submissions for the residential and commercial categories. Each entrant is required to address a specific need for a hypothetical client. Beginner tier entrants are asked to submit a mood board and written description. While advanced tier entrants will have to submit a mood board, color renderings and written description.

“Dunn-Edwards puts a focus on students because they are the future for the innovation of color and design. My passion lies in color, and that’s why I am honored to be involved in this event for the second year in a row,” said Sara A. McLean, Editor and Color Marketing Manager at Dunn-Edwards.

Other judges participating in the 2022 Emerging Professionals Design Competition include Sarah Stieber, Muralist and Jewelry Maker; Anjana Joshi, Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Cañada College and Chabot College; and Jason Lai, Owner/Principal Designer at JL Interiors.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 7. The company anticipates announcing a winner by Aug. 31.
