Hybrid Expands Application Window

WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 2013

A new high-performance elastomeric coating for commercial applications offers a wide-ranging application window that accommodates both low temperatures and high humidity.

Rhino Hybrid 11-50 is a polyurea/polyurethane hybrid elastomeric designed to provide both high tensile strength and good resistance to humidity and substrate moisture during application.

The coating's mix of polyurea and polyurethane chemistries makes it suitable for a wide variety of commercial and industrial applications on structural steel, geotextile, concrete, and wooden structures, the manufacturer says.

Formulation and Features

Rhino Hybrid 11-50 is a 100% solids (zero VOC), high-pressure, spray-applied coating that can be applied in a variety of weather conditions, from hot and dry climates to moderate humidity (up to 85 percent in most instances).

The coating's dense chemisty allows it to resist the effects of wind-driven rain, salts and most chemicals, according to Rhino.

Hybrid 11-50 sets within three to five seconds, with 55 shore D hardness, 100 percent elongation, and 2200 psi tensile strength. When used with a Rhino primer, the company says, Hybrid 11-50 will protect steel and concrete from rust, corrosion and degradation.

Hybrid 11-50 is a 1:1 mix ratio, but is also available in a 2:1 mix ratio. Applicators may apply a minimum thickness of 1/16" (62.5 mils/1.5 mm) in a single coat multi-pass application up to 500 ml thick.

Founded in 1988, San Diego-based Rhino supplies polyurethane, polyaspartic and epoxy coatings and linings for industrial, municipal and residential applications.
