New Coating Resists Humidity, Chemicals
For industrial applications where color and gloss retention are crucial, Rhino Linings Corp. has introduced a new polyurea aliphatic coating.
SolarMax 11-70 is a pure polyurea aliphatic coating that is UV and color stable, with high resistance to humidity and substrate moisture during application, according to Rhino.
SolarMax 11-70 combines the durability of an elastomer with the color and gloss retention of a UV topcoat without the need for touchups, the company said.
The two-component system is recommended for military applications, such as tactical vehicles and equipment, and other applications that require a seamless lining of any shape and size.
Resistance in One Coat
The coating is 100 percent solids and zero VOC. The polyurea/polyaspartic chemistry of SolarMax allows the coating to be high-pressure spray-applied in hot, dry or high humidity climates without foaming or blistering, according to the company.
The product is applied in a single-coat, multi-pass application and cures to the touch within 30 seconds, providing resistance to mechanical impact, abrasion and long-term corrosion, according to Rhino.
The company said that the coating's dense chemistry also allows it to resist the effects of wind-driven rain, salts and most chemicals.
When used on a properly prepared substrate, SolarMax 11-70 will protect steel, concrete, geotextile, foam, wood or aged polyester fiberglass. The coating can be used as a single coat application or as a thin top coat for aromatic urethanes and polyureas, Rhino said.
The physical properties of SolarMax 11-70 include 70 shore D hardness, 20 percent elongation and 3,400 psi tensile strength.
