TX Rec Center Repainting Up for Bid
Bids are being invited for a repainting project at a 23,000-square-foot community recreation center in Temple, TX.
The City of Temple is seeking contractors to repaint interior surfaces at the Summit Fitness Center, as well as recoating exterior pillars and fencing.
Bids are due June 4. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was held May 23.
Painting the Summit
The contractor will repair, clean and paint interior walls, ceilings, and fixtures throughout the center.
Walls will be coated with a semi-gloss, pre-catalyzed, water-based epoxy. The locker room and multipurpose room will receive a single coat of latex bonding primer.
Most walls will require two contrasting colors, split horizontally. The walls should be measured 42 inches from the lowest floor elevation to determine the break in color, with the darker shade applied to the bottom and the lighter shade to the top.
In the wet areas of locker rooms, only the ceiling surfaces will be painted. Ceiling surfaces will be coated with semi-gloss latex.

In addition, all previously painted doors, jambs, sills, and trim will be painted with a two-coat, semi-gloss, alkyd enamel system. Pre-finished metal surfaces such as doors, door frames, and window frames will not need to be painted.
The project also includes cleaning and painting two exterior pillars and a fence surrounding an outdoor pool. Pillar surfaces will be painted with two coats of an exterior acrylic latex. The fence will be cleaned, spot-primed with a rust inhibitor, and painted with two coats of a gloss oil-based industrial paint. The bottom of the fence posts should also be caulked.
Facility equipment, furniture, and flooring should be protected from splatter during paint application. A minimum one-year warranty on the materials and labor is required, according to the bid documents.

Winner of the 2012 Temple Daily Telegram Readers’ Choice Award, Summit Fitness Center is a city-owned recreation center for use by residents of all ages. According to the city website, the center features a 20-foot indoor rock climbing wall, a seasonal outdoor pool, eight tennis courts, two racquetball courts, group exercise class studios, cardio and strength training equipment, and an interactive gaming youth fitness room.
