Roof Coaters Offer Interactive VOC Maps

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2013

Trying to navigate which of the many VOC regulations govern your coatings project area?

Now, there's a tool that can help.

The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association has developed interactive VOC Regulation Maps to track rules governing architectural and industrial maintenance coatings and adhesives and sealants in the U.S. and California air districts.

Access to the interactive maps is available with annual membership to the RCMA or to non-members through a new sublicense, RCMA has announced.

Users can click on a state or region to view select portions of the rule, including VOC limits for several product categories; labeling and recordkeeping requirements; volume exemptions; and active links to the full text of the applicable rule, according to the association.

Designed for use by manufacturers, applicators and suppliers of coatings, adhesives and sealants, the maps are updated frequently to reflect the latest regulatory news, the group says.

Specific maps for California track AIM coatings and adhesives and sealants in each air district, and include links to each district’s rule, California Air Resources Board (CARB) district page, and proprietary district page. Links are also provided to the model rules and suggested control measures from CARB, the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), RCMA notes.

The maps are updated frequently to reflect the latest regulatory news, to keep users current on present and prospective project areas, RCMA says. Specific maps for California are available.

“Our members have found the VOC Regulation Maps to be critical tools for their businesses,” said John Ferraro, RCMA general manager.

“Keeping apace of the various rules governing VOC limits is a concern frequently voiced by members of the coatings industry, and RCMA is pleased to provide this tool to the industry to help them navigate the regulations.”

The VOC Regulation Maps will be sublicensed for $750 per user per year. Email Kelly Franklin or visit www.roofcoatings.org for more information regarding subscription options.
