Garland Unveils Primer for Metal Roofs

THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2013

The Garland Company Inc. has added White-Knight Metal Primer, an all-purpose aromatic urethane coating, to its product offerings.

The coating is recommended for use with urethane topcoats on stainless steel, galvanized metals, Galvalume-coated metals, copper, aluminum, and Kynar-coated metal roof systems, and as a base coat for the company's White-Knight restoration system.

Properties, Applications

Garland says White-Knight Metal Primer is easy to apply, durable and adheres well to properly prepared metal surfaces.

"It's designed to maintain and protect metals from rusting and breaking down," said Tom Stuewe, Garland product manager.

The primer's resistance to mild industrial fumes and light chemical conditions make it suitable for use on aging industrial roofs in need of restoration, the company says.

Preparing Roof for Primer

Metal roof surfaces can be prepared for primer application by cleaning the surface with a Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) cleaning agent or with a non-toxic biodegradable industrial cleaning solution such as Simple Green, the company says.

"When the basecoat is followed by multiple coats of White-Knight combined with Garland’s Ulti-Mat fiberglass or Grip Polyester Soft reinforcement, the resulting White-Knight restoration system cures to a durable, weatherproof, reinforced, and fully-adhered elastomeric membrane," the company says.

Based in Cleveland, OH, The Garland Company Inc. is a producer of high-performance roofing and building-maintenance products for the commercial, industrial and institutional markets.
