New Product Announcement: Siloxane Coating Defoamer

Specialty chemicals company Evonik recently introduced two new siloxane-based defoamers to improve sustainability and performance of waterborne architectural coatings.

TEGO Foamex 16 and TEGO Foamex 11 both reportedly have very low volatile and semi-volatile organic compound (VOC and SVOC) content, without containing solvents or mineral oils. 

TEGO Foamex 16 is a siloxane-based defoamer concentrate that provides a balance of defoaming efficiency and compatibility, particularly for low to medium PVC coatings. It also contains 25% bio-based materials.

The other product, TEGO Foamex 11, is a siloxane-based defoamer emulsion optimized for high PVC coatings. It includes 15% active ingredient, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional mineral oil-based defoamers.

According to Evoink, defoamers are essential components in coating formulations because they prevent and eliminate foam during the manufacturing, filling and application processes. Foam can cause defects in coatings, such as pinholes or cratering, which compromise the aesthetic and protective qualities of the final product.
