New Product Announcement: Industrial Paint Robot

TUESDAY, MAY 21, 2024

Robotics company Fanuc America has unveiled what it is calling the world's first global explosion-proof, collaborative paint robot for industrial painting, coating, powder and fiberglass reinforced plastic applications.

According to the company, the CRX-10iA/L Paint collaborative robot, or "cobot," will provide benefits of automation for more companies in these industries, boost all types of paint operations and comply with explosion-proof safety standards required in the United States.

Fanuc adds that operations with no robotics experience can quickly and effectively deploy these cobots to automate their painting and coating processes by using “easy-teach” features, including drag-and-drop programming and “lead through teach.”

“Fanuc paint robots have been designed and manufactured continuously in Michigan since 1982. Now with the new CRX-10iA/L Paint collaborative robot, more operations will be able to reap the benefits of paint and coating automation,” said Ed Minch, Sales Director for Auto Component & General Industry Paint at Fanuc America.

“We know our customers are struggling to increase their production and efficiency to keep up with rising demand while staying profitable. Cobots that paint will be a gamechanger for companies that might have very little or no prior experience with robots to help them cost effectively automate within a short period of time. This is the first collaborative paint robot available for sale and use in North and South America.”

The cobot reportedly has a payload of 10 kilograms (22 pounds) and a reach of 1,418 millimeters (55.8 inches), which the company says is the longest in its class. It is also lightweight at 45 kilograms (99 pounds) with a small footprint, which can be enhanced by stacking the control unit onto a light and compact R-30iB Mini Plus controller, according to the company.

Additionally, Fanuc says the CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot is maintenance-free for eight years, adding to ownership savings and boosting operations.

The model can be programmed with the Fanuc CRX Tablet Teach Pendant, which allows users to create paint path programs using the drag-and-drop interface. Intuitive paint-specific icon commands have also reportedly been added for paint applications.

The company adds that it has full optimization capabilities with path editing and ROBOGUIDE software. It can also be integrated with other equipment used in painting, powder, liquid, coating and fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP CHOP/GEL) applications.
