Tenaris Awarded Oil Pipeline Coatings Contract

THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2024

Global pipe manufacturer Tenaris recently announced that it has received a contract to provide coating services for the Mero 4 oil project in the Campos Basin Pre-Salt in Brazil, one of the world’s largest oil discoveries in deep waters.

Tenaris states that it will apply 81 kilometers (50 miles) of thermal insulation coatings to risers and flowlines for the project over the next year with deliveries beginning in 2025. The work will reportedly include TenCoat Marine 5LPP Solid and Syntactic.

With a water depth of 2,100 meters, the Mero field is reportedly the third largest in the Pre-Salt region, operated by a consortium of Petrobras in partnership with Shell, TotalEnergies, CNODC and CNOOC.

The project is expected to feature 15 wells connected to the Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO, which has a processing capacity of 180,000 barrels per day.
