New Product Announcement: Emergency Mastic

TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 2024

Global coatings, linings and fireproofing manufacturer Carboline Company has announced the launch of Carbothane DTM Mastic, a one-coat solution for emergency maintenance or quick-turn coating projects.

According to a release from the company, the new product is a urethane-based hybrid that works over minimally prepared steel surfaces, helping to retain color and gloss longer.

“The value of Carbothane DTM Mastic in the market is clear: Better corrosion protection and great visual appeal in a single coat. It performs exceptionally even over marginal surfaces, so it's ideal for unplanned spot maintenance or emergencies,” said Jeff Anderson, Executive Vice President of Quality, R&D, and Commercial Resources.

The company says that in July 2023, DTM Mastic was tested on an emergency pipeline coating project at a liquid terminal in Philadelphia, after corrosion and discoloration were discovered.

The terminal owner reportedly needed the piping repainted quickly to maintain compliance with regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The DTM Mastic was reportedly applied by hand in rough conditions, including a minimally prepared surface, the presence of moisture and hot summer temperatures. The application was reportedly smooth, and the coating performed as expected, bringing the piping back into EPA compliance with no fines.

“This field trial, and other recent success stories like it, demonstrate the immediate impact Carbothane DTM Mastic has had on unplanned or emergency coating project outcomes. Every product we develop is intended to solve specific problems, so the market's response to Carbothane DTM Mastic so far is a great sign,” said Justin Manuel, Director of Global Product Line.
