ACA Announces Conference Keynote Speaker

Earlier this month, the American Coatings Association announced that Dr. Robert Roop, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Axalta Coating Systems, will give the keynote address at the 2024 American Coatings Conference.

According to ACA’s emailed release, Dr. Roop’s speech will explore the shift in coating innovation’s focus from improved performance to improved sustainability due to societal demand.

The release states that Dr. Roop has worked in his current role at Axalta since July 2019, and in multiple technology leadership roles across Axalta for over 10 years.

Before taking on those roles, Dr. Roop spent 20 years in technology and operations positions at DuPont in several polymer and chemical businesses. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

About the 2024 Conference

The 2024 American Coatings Show and Conference is scheduled for April 30 through May 2 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

The ACA's release states that the 2024 American Coatings Conference will showcase a curated, varied program across multiple topical tracks, offering around 90 technical sessions.

This year's conference theme, in partnership with Vincentz Network, is “Innovations in Coatings Technology: Shaping Our Future.”

ACS describes the annual event as a “leading North American industry event, setting trends for future developments in the industry ... Offering immediate business opportunities, a complete portfolio of high-grade competitive products, and access to top coatings decision makers.”

Exhibitors and attendees will have the chance to explore an interactive floor plan that will feature companies and new products in the coatings industry. The American Coatings Conference will also provide a comprehensive overview of advancements in coatings formulations, as well as key technological developments.

This year, the conference will also include the Fun Run, where runners and walkers can gather to network and fundraise for student participation in the AC Conference.

The American Coatings Conference works to bring together members of the coatings industry’s technical and scientific community with members of the academic world of coatings and their students for three days of learning and sharing new scientific research and advancements in coatings technology.

Abstract Submissions

Additionally, the recently extended deadline for conference presentation abstracts ended earlier this month on Oct. 13.

Previously, submissions had closed on Oct. 2; however, the association explained that the change followed industry feedback and numerous requests for extension. It added that all contributions already submitted would still be considered for inclusion in the program.

According to the emailed release, conference organizers were to select presentations for the 2024 American Coatings Conference based on three key criteria:

  • Scientific significance;
  • Novelty; and
  • Potential technical value to the industry.

The oral presentations will be about 25 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes for discussion. All submitted papers will reportedly be considered by the conference organizers for possible publication. ACA stated that it will retain the first right of first refusal on all presentations accepted for the 2024 American Coatings Conference.

The ACA will reportedly notify speakers of their accepted presentations on Nov. 7. Submissions of full technical papers for the conference proceedings will reportedly be due Feb. 20, 2024.

Additionally, the outstanding paper will reportedly be honored with the American Coatings Award, as well as receive $2,500 and a sculpture.
