Contract Awarded for AR Bridge Painting

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has awarded a contract in the amount of $33,534,357.66 for the painting and coating of two existing bridge structures on Highways 13 and 31 over I-40 in Carlisle and Lonoke, Arkansas.

The contract was awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Fort Worth, Texas.

Kiewit Infrastructure was the lowest of two apparent bidders, including Mobley Contractors (Morrilton, Arkansas) in the amount of $32,439,648.93.

The project includes painting 388 tons of structural steel, as well as coating 3,031 square yards of concrete with Class 2 protective surface treatment. The project also involves 2,584 square yards of textured coating finish, as well as 2,828 square feet of architectural finishes.

Structural steel surfaces will require a three-coat system consisting of a zinc-rich primer, epoxy intermediate and urethane finish. Textured coating finish will involve an application of synthetic non-alkyd resin.

Surface preparation will involve cleaning in accordance with standards for Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2).

Approved manufacturers include Advanced Chemical Technologies, BASF, Carboline, Evonik, Euclid, PPG Paints and Sherwin-Williams.
