New Product Announcement: Coatings Adhesion Test

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2023

Quality inspection and design equipment manufacturer Paul N. Gardner USA has recently announced the release of the new X-Cut Cross Hatch Adhesion Tester.

According to the company’s emailed release, the adhesion tester can help users to avoid costly adhesion failures and ensure that coatings are durable and reliable.

The company states that users can evaluate the adhesion of coatings, improve quality control, safety assurance and product reliability by using the adhesion tool and its kit options to avoid guesswork and stop coating failure.

The Gardco X-Cut was reportedly designed for adhesion test method, ASTM D3359 (Method A) Standard Test Method for Measuring Adhesion by Tape Test, for coatings that possess over five mils. According to the release, the adhesion tester is “useful for consistent and reliable adhesion tests in the lab or field.”

Using the Gardco X-Cut template tool and cutter, users can reportedly perform the x-cut test by making a few closely spaced cuts through the coating to the substrate. The release states that about two cuts are made that intersect at 90 degrees to get a right-angle lattice pattern. Then a controlled amount of pressure can be applied with tape to assess if the adhesion property of the coating to the substrate is working.

The X-Cut Adhesion Tester is reportedly available in three options:

  • 15360–Complete X-Cut Cross Cut Adhesion Test Kit;
  • 15359–X-Cut Tool and Cutter in Case; and
  • 15361–X-Cut Gauge only.

The Gardco X-Cut was reportedly designed for adhesion test methods, ASTM D3359 (Method A) Standard Test Method for Measuring Adhesion by Tape Test, for coatings that exceed five mils.

The product is expected to help professionals determine the adhesion strength of coatings to ensure that they adhere properly to substrates and perform as intended over time. The X-Cut Cross Cut Adhesion Tester, the company explains, is a reliable adhesion test for the lab or field.

“The complete kit includes everything needed to test adhesion in the field in one convenient case,” said James Fusco, Product Manager for the Paul N. Gardner Company.
