Sico, Dulux Brands Launch 2024 Color Picks

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2023

Two of global coatings company PPG’s brands recently unveiled their selections for the 2024 Color of the Year, both sporting yellow hues.

On Tuesday (Sept. 12), Dulux Paints by PPG selected yellow-beige Limitless (DLX1091-3) for its pick, noting that the color infuses home decor with a sense of energy and optimism reflective of consumer sentiments moving into 2024.

“Across the globe, we’re seeing design preferences shift from stark, cool-toned shades to those more reflective of cultural optimism coming to the forefront. This translates into an affinity for warm-toned shades that are both soothing, yet elevated,” said Mitsu Dhawan, PPG brand manager, Dulux Paints.

“There’s a growing focus on creativity, holistic well-being and acceptance. From a color perspective, this comes to life in a preference shift to calming shades that inspire feelings of happiness and goodwill; Limitless is the perfect embodiment of this sentiment.”

Simultaneously, the company announced Sico Paint by PPG's 2024 Color of the Year, Satin (6112-31).

The modern, yellow shade reportedly balances the primary color with the “subtlety of a neutral.” Described as a warm, honey-beige tone, Sico explains that the versatility makes it an option for an all-over wall color as an accent color.

“As a society, we’re carrying the lessons of introspection and the importance of calm into the future. Coupled with a renewed sense of excitement for the endless possibilities of the future, consumers’ preferences are shifting away from stark, cool shades and looking to colours that invigorate a space,” said Martin Fuchs, PPG senior marketing manager for the Sico brand.

“Satin is the perfect representation of these sentiments with its cheerful yellow base grounded in a calming beige undertone.”

As the headlining color of Sico’s 2024 palette, Satin reportedly pairs well with multiple hues from the lineup, including an earthy rust Cubist Red (6037-85), aquamarine Natural Spring Water (6201-31), deep teal Kennetcook Slate (6157-63) and warm khaki, Mantra (6222-42).

PPG, Glidden Selection

Last month, PPG also named Limitless (PPG1091-3) as its 2024 Color of the Year. Described as a “contemporary honey beige shade,” Limitless reportedly reflects a shift in consumer preferences towards warmer, less saturated colors.

According to the company's release, PPG’s global color experts also curated a palette of more than 40 complementary hues, organized into three distinct color palettes, or “volumes.” The company describes the volumes as follows:

  • The first features soft, grounded colors;
  • The second includes earthy greens, florals and energizing blues; and
  • The third is a mix of playful and dramatic colors.

PPG’s color forecasting is a comprehensive process, the company explains, covering a wide range of end-use segments and regions. To create the 2024 collection, PPG’s color styling team reportedly evaluated social, cultural and political dynamics influencing trends in every region of the world.

That same day, PPG also announced that its Glidden paint shared the “anything but yellow” hue as its Color of the Year.

Glidden stylists reportedly expect this “boujee beige” to show up in exterior and interior commercial and residential spaces, styles and textures. The color pairs with warm and cool tones, so color experts recommend using it anywhere and in unconventional spaces as well.
