Contract Awarded for WA Bridge Rehab
The Washington State Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $20,650,402 for painting and repairs to three existing bridge structures along State Route 529 over the Snohomish River.
The contract was awarded to Liberty Maintenance Inc., based in Youngstown, Ohio.
Liberty Maintenance was the lowest of two apparent bidders, including Southern Road & Bridge LLC of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $27,645,707.50.
The project involves cleaning and coating of metal and wood substrates. The contractor will also oversee coating and repairs to the control house, containment of waste and abrasives, structural and mechanical rehabilitation, concrete repairs and miscellaneous site work.
Ferrous and galvanized metal surfaces, wood surfaces, pipes, coverings, conduits, mechanical and electrical items, and supports will be coated with a latex coating system. Concrete surfaces will require an epoxy overlay. Specified surfaces will require galvanizing, galvanized touch-ups and aluminizing.
Surfaces will require preparation in accordance with standards for Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1), Commercial Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3), Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2) and Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 15).
The project includes removal and disposal of asbestos-containing materials.
Owner-approved manufacturers for this project include Benjamin Moore & Co., PPG Paints and Sherwin-Williams.
