ChatGPT Generates AI Powered Color Collection

FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 2023

Paint manufacturer HMG Paints Ltd. has released a new collection of decorative paint colors for World Earth Day using artificial intelligence language model ChatGPT. The company reports via email that they believe they’re the first independent U.K. paint manufacturer to utilize AI to develop a color collection.

According to the release, the Nature’s Embrace collection comprises 10 colors and is “ideal for those who wish to infuse their homes and workspaces with a sense of natural calm.”

About the Collection

From the muted green of “Mossy Glen” to the warm terracotta of “Earthen Hearth,” each color is designed to create a sense of serenity and comfort, HMG says. The collection also includes the delicate pink of “Petals and Bloom,” the deep blue of “Midnight Forest” and the soft yellow of “Golden Fields,” providing a diverse range of hues to suit any space.

The colors, names and descriptions were generated via OpenAI's ChatGPT. Additionally, the AI developed marketing assets that will be used across the company’s digital marketing activity.

These color formulations were then transformed into paint formulations using HMG Paints' ColourBase software. The full collection of colors includes:

  • Deep Oceanic;
  • Earthen Hearth;
  • Golden Fields;
  • Midnight Forest;
  • Mossy Glen;
  • Mushroom Grove;
  • Petals and Bloom;
  • Rosewood Haze;
  • Slate Mountains; and
  • Soft Sandstone.

“We are excited to unveil our new Nature's Embrace collection,” said Paddy Dyson, HMG Paints Marketing Manager. “The colors in this collection were generated using the latest AI technology, which allowed us to create unique, on-trend color names and references that perfectly capture the beauty of nature.

“By using our ColourBase software to turn these color codes into paint formulations, we ensure that each color in the Nature's Embrace collection is of the highest quality and suitable for use in any space.”

The colors, names and descriptions were generated via OpenAI's ChatGPT. Additionally, the AI developed marketing assets that will be used across the company’s digital marketing activity.

The Nature’s Embrace collection will be available for purchase from World Earth Day 2023, sold through the HMG Paints online shop. The collection will reportedly include a range of interior emulsions, each designed to provide excellent coverage and long-lasting durability.

“At HMG Paints Ltd, we are committed to innovation, AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach creating marketing assets. By leveraging the power of machine learning, we can generate new and innovative ideas for visual and written content,” added Rebecca Jennings, Creative Marketer.

“By using AI technology to generate color codes and our ColourBase software to turn these codes into paint formulations, we are able to offer our customers a unique range of colors. We are proud to be at the forefront of the paint and coatings industry and are excited to see how our customers will use the Nature's Embrace collection to create beautiful, natural spaces.”

 “With AI's ability to analyse large amounts of data and provide insights into consumer behaviour, we can create more effective and targeted marketing campaigns,” added Paddy. “It's an exciting time to be in marketing, and AI is at the forefront of this revolution.”

All colors in the Nature’s Embrace Collection will be made to order and will reportedly be dispatched starting April 24.
