ACA Extends 2023 Abstract Deadline

In an emailed press release, the American Coatings Association (ACA) announced it was extending the deadline for abstract submissions for its 2023 CoatingsTech Conference from Dec. 1 to Dec. 8.

The conference, which will be held June 26-28, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade in Cleveland will explore the theme, “Coatings Technologies: Adaptation in a Complex World.”

According to ACA, the biennial conference features a multi-track forum, industry awards and presentation opportunities for both industry professionals and students.

The conference is also planning to offer industry experts a platform for sharing new research and will be presenting half-day short courses as well. In addition to technology-focused sessions, the conference covers regulatory and legislative developments impacting manufacturing, product innovation and sustainability.

“The CoatingsTech Conference creates an opportunity for coatings manufacturers, their suppliers, universities, and government representatives to share ideas and collaborate, with a focus on advancing the coatings industry,” wrote ACA.

Those submitting abstracts for consideration should know that, if accepted, they will be expected to provide their full paper or poster and make a presentation in person at the conference.

To submit a paper or poster, authors are asked to provide a maximum 1,500-character abstract along with:

  • Title of Paper/Poster, Author(s), and Company/Institution Name;
  • Speaker’s Name and Biographical Information; and
  • Mailing Address, Email and Telephone Number.

The following topics are sought and will be considered:

  • Advances in Analytical Methods & Technology;
  • Application/Manufacturing/Processing Equipment;
  • Architectural Coatings;
  • Biocidal Control (e.g., preservation, surface protection, antifouling);
  • Corrosion and Adhesion;
  • Functional Coatings;
  • High-throughput Testing;
  • Infrastructure Coatings;
  • Nanotechnology;
  • Pigments and Other Additives;
  • Powder Coatings Advancements;
  • Protective Coatings;
  • Radiation-cured Coatings;
  • Renewable/Bio-based Coatings;
  • Transporation Coatings;
  • Waterborne Coatings;
  • Weathering and Durability;
  • Wood Coatings; and
  • Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations/Sustainability.

Abstract submissions are due Dec. 8. For more information, click here.

During the conference, the ACA is also planning to announce the CoatingsTech Best Paper Award. To submit a paper for the 2023 competition, the following rules must be observed:

  • Participants must complete an entry to the Call for Papers, and request to be considered for this award;
  • All submissions must have high technical merit, including objectivity and sound experimental design; and
  • Papers must have strong relevance to coatings technology and its high potential impact on the industry.

In 2021, ACA Chair Ramesh Subramanian presented the CoatingsTech Best Paper Award to Hamidreza Asemani for his paper, “Advanced Duel-curable Coatings Obtained from Multi-Functional Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Oligomers.” The paper was co-authored by Professor Vijay Mannari of Eastern Michigan University, who also directed this research as part of Asemani's Ph.D. research endeavors.

The paper was judged by six of ACA’s session chairs and was accompanied by a cash prize.
