Paint Manufacturers Launch Coatings Association
With backing and support from the World Coatings Council (WCC) and Vincentz Network, 10 paint manufacturers with locations in the Middle East have recently launched a new coatings association.
The Middle East Paints and Coatings Association (MEPCA) includes AkzoNobel, Altakamol, Asian Paints, Axalta, Caparol Paints, Hempel, Jotun, National Paints, PPG and RAR Holding. Talks for the Association reportedly started back in February between WCC President Tom Bowtell and Vincentz Network Global Business Director Coatings Jürgen Nowak.

A joint meeting with the coatings manufacturers was held in May. A document launching MEPCA was then signed in Dubai on Sept. 13 by founding members of the Association.
At that time, Sheibani Group / Altakamol International CEO Abubaker Sheibani was elected Chairman of the Association and is supported by Vice Chairman Martin Rosocha, Managing Director ME & Africa, Caparol Paints, and Treasurer Jasbir Gill, Regional Director Middle East and Africa, AkzoNobel.
“At long last, we have a joint platform for our industry in the region. We will collaborate for the benefit of all members and the coatings sector in general. Over time, we strive to grow our membership to include all relevant paints and coatings manufacturers in the Middle East,” said Sheibani.
Official registration through Dubai authorities is slated to take several months to process; however, MEPCA hopes to be fully operational by the end of 2022 or early 2023. Until then, the Association is planning to name a general secretary to complete MEPCA’s setup and coordinate activities.
Both Vincentz Network as a company and Tom Bowtell as WCC President have been made Honorary Members of MEPCA.
